Burness Paull is one of Scotland’s premier law firms with offices of equal size and strength across Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen, serving clients in Scotland, the UK and globally.
We are looking to recruit a Senior Solicitor/Associate (2-6 PQE) to join our market-leading Real Estate (Renewables) team in our Edinburgh office. The role represents a fantastic opportunity to join a well established and growing team who advise a number of prominent developers and funders in the energy sector, with exposure to interesting and varied work in a sector of critical importance on a global scale as we strive to meet ambitious climate change targets and address issues around energy supply.
The renewables sector is thriving, and the combination of established technologies such as onshore wind, solar, energy from waste and hydro with the growth of offshore wind and energy storage and establishment of emerging areas such as hydrogen and CCUS (carbon capture, usage and storage) present significant opportunities for future development. Allied with a current focus on energy transition and ESG while combining that with ensuring security of energy supply, this role is a unique opportunity to play a part in delivering projects that make a real difference.
The successful candidate will be part of a close-knit specialist team led by Neil Bruce, supporting our senior fee earners and partners advising on renewable energy transactions across a wide range of projects and technologies. Detailed training and development will be provided to allow the successful candidate to take ownership of files and play a key role in advising clients.
The workload will be varied between advising developers, funders and landowners, as well as commercial organisations addressing their energy usage and carbon footprint as they focus on their own ESG journey. This includes a mix of direct client instructions and working with referral firms on transactions where we are instructed as Scottish counsel. The team’s client list is a Who’s Who of the major players in the energy sector, as well as International and City Law Firms acting on some of the largest energy transactions with Scots law elements. Team members have excellent exposure to a stellar client list, and the successful candidate will be heavily involved in some of the most significant projects and deals in the sector.
The candidate will therefore be expected to rise to the demands of those blue-chip clients and transactions and have good project management skills. The team often provides real estate advice within larger projects and transactions, and so the candidate must be able to work well with internal teams from other areas of our energy sector group and project teams from referral firms.
The candidate must also be passionate about contributing to and being actively involved in business development initiatives as we further grow the practice. The role will allow for real development and opportunity in this area.
This is a great opportunity to join a leading team in a successful, growing firm with excellent prospects for career progression in a vibrant and blooming sector. At Burness Paull we look for ambition, innovation, passion and focus.
