Purpose:

This is a rare and exciting senior appointment – working within our commercial property team, reporting to and supporting the practice of the Head of Property. The successful candidate will work in a leading role within the team on major transactions and will help to develop and further cement relationships with key clients. There will be an opportunity to develop your practice and existing relationships (although a following is not required).

The ideal candidate will be energetic, passionate, and driven to succeed. They will be a fully motivated self starter who exhibits a tremendous enthusiasm for the job. With a keen eye for detail they will be able to manage and motivate a larger team.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Professional

Recognised as having excellent, in-depth, technical expertise in commercial property.

 Excellent knowledge of the practice of property transactions.

 Capable of leading matters/transactions without supervision.

 Experience in housebuilding transactions would be a benefit but is not essential.

Relationship with clients

Will provide clients with clear, concise, pragmatic, commercial legal advice and guidance giving the impression that the client is cared for.

 Must be able to build strong relationships at all levels with the client.

 Must understand the client’s needs and what they’re looking for from their legal adviser.

 Will focus on providing the very best service and will be seen as a "trusted adviser".

 Must be willing to suggest business/commercial ideas to the client.

Business Development

Spots new opportunities, and follows these up.

 Must have strong networking skills and be able to build relationships.

People management

Successfully supervises and delegates work to individuals/teams.

 Mentors, develops and coaches more junior staff. Provides clear direction and regular feedback. Is open, approachable and supportive. Identifies, and promptly addresses, under performance.

 Supports the partner with people management issues.

Administration Skills

Business side of the law: recording time, estimating fees, having files fee’d regularly and promptly.

 Time recording done on a regular basis.

 Ability to advise clients on approximate cost of transaction.

Training

Ability to expand the role of solicitors and trainees by training in more complex transactions.

 Encourage solicitors/trainees to take more responsibility resulting in them gaining experience at a higher level and developing competency in more complex transactions.

 Ensuring that when more complex work is taken on that appropriate supervision and encouragement is given.
